Pisa Lisa

Pisa Lisa has long been one of our go-to restaurants when we’re craving a hot slice of pizza. The West Sedona location beckons with a lively patio that overlooks the stunning Capitol Butte red rock formation and a cozy interior that’s well lit when the afternoon light streams in. Be sure to get a glimpse of the wood-fired oven where all the pizzas are cooked fresh. To kick off our meal at this spot that’s helmed by local chef Lisa Dahl, we ordered the Exotica Beet salad. This colorful, texture-rich salad features organic greens mixed with goat cheese, beets, crunchy Marcona almonds and a sweet and sour house-made vinaigrette. The beet salad is our favorite, but they’re all good. The Killer Kale is a fan favorite. The kale salad incorporates shaved Parmesan, Marcona almonds and mushrooms. The entire creation is tossed in the restaurant’s vinaigrette and is reminiscent of a Caesar salad.

When it comes to the main offering, the menu is divided into red and white pizzas. We opted for one of each. The Fra Diavolo red pizza is a true spicy delight. This pie features spicy arrabbiata, Gulf rock shrimp, spicy fennel sausage, peppers, Pisa Lisa’s signature mother red sauce and zesty lemon. Each bite is spicy and hot and a true delight.

Decadent white pizzas are some of our favorite pies. They’re always so rich and filling and are not as easy to find. The Passionist is such a dynamic creation. This pie is topped with fig jam, a provolone and mozzarella mix, savory prosciutto, caramelized onion, crunchy walnuts and peppery arugula. The sweetness of the fig is tempered by the savory ingredients, making this one irresistible pie. We can’t think of a better way to end a meal here than with a cool scoop of gelato. On our last visit, we enjoyed raspberry and salted caramel. The salted caramel was a perfect blend of both savory and sweet, while the vibrant pink raspberry was so refreshing. Before we left, we took in one final view of Thunder Mountain and reflected on another great meal at one of our most cherished haunts. − A Sedona Foodie
