Judi’s Restaurant & Lounge is a special place. This West Sedona spot has been in business for over three decades and has rightfully earned a strong following. Although the original owner and the restaurant’s namesake, Judi Keiser, passed away in 2009, current owners Gary and Alice Simmons took over the spot back in 2013 and have kept it going. Inside, the restaurant is cozy with small tables and glass lights hanging above them. When it’s cold outside, we appreciate the roaring fireplace. We’ve been going here for many years and have always enjoyed great meals. The (likely) secret to the restaurant’s success? Everything is made from scratch, and each item tastes great because of it.
Our go-to lunch order here is the Chopped Chef Salad. This colorful and texture-rich plate is a nutrient-packed mix of turkey, ham, cheddar, Swiss cheese, egg, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, cucumber, tomato and lettuce. The dish is served with a refreshing slice of watermelon, which makes the whole thing all the more colorful. The Reuben is our other favorite lunchtime order and one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes. Perfectly seasoned corned beef, tangy sauerkraut and Swiss cheese are all sandwiched in between crisp grilled rye. The sandwich comes with fruit and pickles. Ribs are another specialty here. The slow roasted pork ribs feature tender, fall-off-the-bone meat and are served with tangy BBQ sauce. If you’ve got a big appetite, this is what you’d want to order. The Fish & Chips are another outstanding dish here. Tender Alaskan cod is hand breaded and deep fried. The fries are also seasoned just right and cooked to perfection. Fish and chips are always best when they’re hot and fresh, and this take on it never disappoints. Like everything on the menu, it all tastes fresh and home-cooked.
All the desserts here are excellent. Judi’s Famous Pecan Pie is worth ordering each time. Each bite is savory, sweet and crunchy. Don’t miss the-made-from-scratch desserts at Judi’s, one of Sedona’s most beloved haunts that we hope will be around forever. − A Sedona Foodie
