Featured Pet of the Month: Onyx

Onyx

At just over a year old, Onyx has already overcome more challenges than most dogs face in a lifetime.

When she was surrendered to the Humane Society of Sedona at only seven months old, she was in need of major knee surgery. The first months of her stay were spent recovering, healing, and learning that people could be a source of comfort and care. After making a full recovery, Onyx found a home, but her happily-ever-after was short-lived. A few months later, she was returned to the shelter. The experience left her feeling confused and anxious, and it took time for her confidence to return.

Today, Onyx is once again showing her bright and loving personality. She delights in carrying stuffed animals around the dog park, soaking up attention from staff and volunteers, and rolling over for her favorite belly rubs. Beneath her playful spirit is a loyal dog who forms deep bonds with the people she trusts. Onyx would thrive as the only dog in her home, where she can enjoy being the center of her family’s attention. She is naturally protective of her people and would do best with a patient adopter who can provide clear boundaries, consistency, and gentle guidance to help her continue building confidence.

While she enjoys playtime and outdoor adventures, Onyx also appreciates life’s quieter moments. Whether it’s relaxing by your side after a long day or accompanying you on a leisurely walk, she is ready to become a devoted companion and faithful friend. Onyx is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccines and her adoption fee has been sponsored. She is ready to begin her next chapter. All she needs is someone willing to give her the chance she deserves.
