West Sedona’s Eagle Dancer Estate is an outstanding property. The home, which features four casitas and one main casa, has plenty of striking features, but the materials are one of the many things about this impressive place that shine. The adobe bricks that make up the exterior are unique. “All the adobe bricks, they’ve been handmade, handcrafted. You cannot find them anymore. It’s just incredible,” says Global Real Estate Advisor Katerina Van Dezor with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. Ken Robertson, a broker with Russ Lyon, also has the listing.

The main’s home living room.

Other historical details? Six original fireplaces. Some of the exterior patios, many of which offer great views of the red rocks, are outfitted with orange Spanish tiles that match the colors of those aforementioned red rocks. Many of the ceilings are also outfitted with original wood beams. Some of the doors you see are also made out of real wood. Visitors can find real granite in both the kitchen and bathroom counters and on the wall in the bathroom. The owners took great care to maintain certain original elements – like those doors and fireplaces – of the home. “That was really important, for them to save it and preserve it,” says Katerina.

Little details make all the difference. Notice the brickwork and fireplace, which is outfitted with amethyst crystals.

The gated 5,000-square-foot home feels grand right from the start. The main entrance features an arched doorway – a detail repeated throughout the home – along with a fountain in the main courtyard. The fountain is one of 15 scattered throughout the six-acre grounds. The roof was recently replaced and more parking was added for a total of 20 parking spaces. The home is used as a private resort. Weddings and proposals have been taken place at this home that sits in the shadow of Capitol Butte.

Despite being centrally located, the home also manages to feel secluded too. “You are in the middle of Sedona, but where the house is located is just so private and quiet. It’s really serene when you go there. Very peaceful as well,” she says. Views aside, the home also has some Sedona flair to it as well. The home features over 100 handcrafted buddhas brought in from Bali.

We just had to ask about all of these statues. The reason for the statues is that the owners have a sister property in Santa Barbara and other homes around the world and wanted this space to feel special. “They really wanted to have it as a sanctuary,” says Katerina. Another only-in-Sedona detail is the crystals sprinkled throughout the home. The main fireplace even features purple amethyst crystals that seemingly glow when the fire is crackling.

The History

This West Sedona property was built in 1973 and has a fascinating history. For starters, architect Bob McIntyre designed the luxe home. Bob was one of the individuals behind the design and creation of Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village. The home’s past residents were also notable individuals.

Notice the brickwork and use of real wood in the doors and on the ceiling throughout the space.

The property was previously owned by Arizona Daily Sun Editor Platt Cline, actress Ann Miller and the Wrigley Family. Many of the original details have been preserved. We’ve mentioned the adobe bricks already, but the main bathroom features original stained glass in a skylight near the shower and on the wall in another part of the bathroom.

Resort-Style Amenities

The home is just like a resort in many ways. The main part of the home is called Casa Amour, and the entire property also features five free-standing casitas. Like many a suite-style hotel, the casitas are outfitted with kitchenettes and a dining area. Many of the casitas are filled with imported furniture. Like many fine resorts, the beds are topped with Beautyrest Black mattresses and Matouk linens. “When the guests arrive, it’s like a resort,” says Katerina.

Views of Coffee Pot Rock from the pool deck. The buddha statue is one of over 100 located throughout the property.

In keeping with that hotel-like feel, the home features a freestanding healing room outfitted with a massage table where people can receive treatments. Guests also can use a eucalyptus-infused steam room outfitted with Italian porcelain, an outdoor hot tub and a cedar dry sauna. Like many top resorts, the home also features an outstanding pool. The heated pool is filled with salt water, and the floor of the pool features a Kokopelli, a fertility symbol.

The estate makes good use of Sedona’s natural beauty and also has its very own private hiking trail. Many private balconies overlook Sedona’s red rocks. One patio also has a choice view of Coffee Pot Rock. In a city filled with impressive home listings, the Eagle Dancer Estate manages to stand out.

From its historical details that literally cannot be built anymore to modern amenities, the home is truly incredible. “It’s a rare gem, one-of-a-kind and a piece of history,” says Katerina. “It’s the modern luxury with the history tied up together.”
