After a long day of hiking, we love to keep that healthy momentum going by digging into a refreshing, healthy snack. One of our absolute favorite go-to spots for lighter bites is West Sedona’s Berry Divine Acai Bowls. Todd Shreve and his daughter, Jessica Ebarb, founded this company in their hometown of Sedona back in 2014. The duo first tried out acai in Hawaii and wanted to bring back what they had tasted. They had a feeling that the shop would resonate with the town’s health-centric vibes. They were right. The chain now has a total of eight locations in Arizona and Texas.
In case you’re not familiar, acai (pronounced “ah-sigh-e”) is a dark purple berry. It’s also high in both antioxidants and fiber. The acai options here are vegan, non-dairy, gluten-free and non-GMO – making this spot a good option for those with dietary restrictions.
One unique offering here? Berry Divine’s signature Soft Serve acai. The soft serve is ice-cream like and made from 100 percent premium organic acai, juices and cane sugar. Acai is topped with a variety of delightful combinations. If we’re craving one of the simpler options, we’d pick the Sedona Bowl. The acai here is topped with fresh strawberries, banana, crunchy granola and sweet honey. We like mixing all the elements together to get some crunch, sweetness and cooling acai on our spoons. The blending of all those different items makes for a palette-pleasing bite. The Summit Bowl is what we’d get when we want an indulgent, dessert-like option. This bowl features strawberries, shaved chocolate, savory cashews, granola and honey – it’s a nice, indulgent option that also manages to feel healthy and light. If we’re really hungry, we’d order The Big Kahuna. This oversized acai bowl is piled high with a medley of sweet, colorful fruit, including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and pineapple. The entire concoction is finished with toasted coconut, almond butter drizzle, crunchy granola and coconut oil.
Diners also can build their own bowls. But no matter what you order, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a refreshing, healthy and delicious treat that leaves you feeling better. − A Sedona Foodie
