A Taste Of Marrakech

A Taste Of Marrakech

Editor’s note: A Taste of Marrakech has closed.

Back in March 2015, a tiny eatery by the name of A Taste of Marrakech opened in Bell Rock Plaza in the Village of Oak Creek, and word traveled across the entire state about the healthy, organic meals coming out of owner Lucas Sena’s kitchen. The restaurant stays busy, and if you don’t want to sit on the patio, it can be hard to snag one of a handful of tables in the dining room, but we guarantee you that it’s worth it, especially if healthy eating is your goal.

Before you open the menu, take a look at the specials written on the blackboard. They are all inspired by seasonal ingredients. Our favorite dish on the main menu – and the one that keeps us coming back over and over – is the Falafel Flatbread Taco. It features a Lebanese-style seared falafel patty topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, spring mix, Caribbean cabbage and fresh tzatziki sauce in the warmest, fluffiest flatbread we’ve ever tasted. When it’s cold outside, we order it with a side of sweet-potato hash (pear and mint salad when it’s hot).

Our other go-to fave is the street tacos, three small tacos featuring your choice of salmon, jerk chicken, bison or lamb. The meat is complimented by fresh-made Moroccan harissa sauce and Caribbean cabbage, and it’s wrapped in corn tortillas. For those who like wild game, the elk sliders are topped with the same harissa sauce along with cheddar, lettuce and tomato. They are served three to a basket. The sliders are slightly spicy and crunchy, and the elk is a nice change of pace from beef.

A Taste of Marrakech offers beer and wine, but when we’re feeling virtuous, we opt for one of the organic teas. We’re never feeling too virtuous for dessert, though, and if you’re a coffee drinker, you’ll love the espresso-y homemade tiramisu. Congrats, Lucas, on helping Village of Oak Creek residents eat healthy for the past four years. – A Sedona Foodie. Photo by Deb Weinkauff.
