Casa Sedona Inn

Admittedly, we don’t get out for breakfast all that often, but when we do, we like to make an event of it. Think brunch à la Sex in the City. Casa Sedona Inn, a secluded, boutique hotel in West Sedona, is our latest find. There’s something about dining at a hotel that makes it feel like you, too, are on vacation, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. The charming outdoor patio and cozy indoor dining room only add to that feeling. The patio boasts linen-clad, wrought-iron tables, soothing water features and up-close-and-personal views of Capitol Butte. The dining room is decked out in southwestern décor with a large fireplace and mantel adorned with flickering candles.

We started with organic tea that was brought to our table in pretty hand-painted teapots and matching cups. Executive Chef Jeremy Geyer does a great job of combining start-your-day trends (breakfast tacos) with classics (seasonal pancakes). To start, a basket of warm, homemade mini strawberry muffins were brought to our table – you can’t go wrong with that. There were three of us dining one brisk morning, and we ordered the California Style Eggs Benedict, Savory Ham & Cheese Belgian Waffle and the aforementioned Breakfast Tacos. The colorful benedict arrived topped with diced tomatoes, steamed spinach, chopped bacon, avocado and a tangy but not overpowering hollandaise sauce.

That same sauce also covered the waffles, a filling dish featuring a golden waffle cut into quarters and topped with two poached eggs, ham, cheese, hollandaise, green onions and a dusting of chipotle spice. It was a delightful mix of sweet and salty, and the best of everything a traditional breakfast has to offer. And those breakfast tacos? Austin, Texas, the taco capital of the U.S., has nothing on these babies. Two corn tortillas arrived stuffed with scrambled eggs shaped like the tortillas, chorizo, spinach, black beans, queso fresco, avocado and pico de gallo. The tacos had a slightly spicy kick, which was just what we needed to warm up but not enough to have us asking for refills on our water. The next time you want to make breakfast feel just a bit more special, spend the morning at Casa Sedona Inn. Erika Ayn Finch. Photo by Deb Weinkauff.
