The Best Hot Dogs in Sedona

Señor Bob’s Hot Dogs

Hot dog: $4.99

Longtime Sedona fast-food staple Señor Bob’s recently moved into newly renovated and larger digs in West Sedona, but it continues to dish up classic American hot dogs with a side of cool Mexican ambiance. South-of-the-border-inspired woodwork and room decor complement the grilled Hebrew National 1/4-lb. all-beef franks, served in buns baked daily on the premises and softly steamed at serving. The yummy fries are made from scratch, too. Best of all, Señor Bob believes that you deserve the freedom to build the frank of your dreams; stop by the hot dog-shaped, 20-item condiment bar and choose from a fresh selection of onions, tomatoes, pickles, chili, nacho cheese, sauerkraut, relishes, hot sauce and more. Tasty eats that are value priced – now that’s what we call a good neighbor policy. – JM

Simon’s Colombian Style Hot Dogs

Tokyo Madness: $5.95

For a few minutes this summer, the No. 1 Sedona restaurant according to TripAdvisor didn’t have linen tablecloths, a wine list or red rock views. Instead, the eatery consisted of a walk-up window inside Oak Creek Brewery, and there was only one entrée on the menu: hot dogs. If you haven’t tried Simon’s Colombian Style Hot Dogs, you’re in the minority. It’s not unusual to have to wait upwards of 20 minutes for your dog to be delivered to your table, especially on the weekends when hungry Phoenicians pack the joint. Grab a cold beer and relax inside the brewhouse next to huge, stainless steel, fermentation tanks or grab a seat on the shaded patio.

Simon’s dogs are available in beef, vegetarian or vegan versions, and the delicacies are wrapped in a soft, steamed bun. Choose from creative options such as the Colombian, which is topped with pineapple, crushed potato chips, mozzarella and a house spread. The Hola Amigo features avocado, cream cheese or tahini and jalapenos. But our favorite always has been and always will be Tokyo Madness. This craveable hot dog is topped with sweet teriyaki onions, wasabi mayo and toasted sushi nori. All dogs are served with your choice of chips or pickles. Our favorite afternoon consists of a long hike followed by a Tokyo Madness hot dog and a cold Oak Creek beer. Bliss.

Spoke & Wheel

Foot-Long Tavern Dog: $11.50

When staying at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa, make sure to try the Foot-Long Tavern Dog that’s served poolside. It’s a thick and juicy monster wrapped in mozzarella cheese, coated with curried ketchup and lazing inside a thick white bun. If you’re not swimming laps or a guest of the resort, here’s an inside tip: Even though it isn’t listed on the menu, you can order the same big dog at Los Ab’s fancy Spoke & Wheel restaurant. Tell ’em Joe sent ya and dig in. The hearty Tavern Dog is a meal unto itself – maybe two – and proof perfect that a frankfurter doesn’t always need lots of garnishments to satisfy. Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush: Spoke & Wheel also dishes up the same hot cheesy dog at happy hour, which, frankly, strikes us as a perfectly delightful idea. – JM
