Cornville

Brewha Social Eatery & Market

Cornville’s Brewha Social Eatery & Market has generated quite a buzz and rightly so. For starters, we love the modern vibe at this excellent casual spot. The light-filled space features high ceilings, chic and comfortable couches coupled with a bar lined with black barstools. You can pop in for a grab-and-go item or stay a while and linger over a cocktail. It’s a fabulous place to spend some time and has plenty to offer in terms of atmosphere and food and craft cocktails. Brunch is served daily. Our personal favorite brunch option is the hearty Morning Sandwich, a fried egg, bacon, roasted green chili, grilled muenster cheese and tomato served on a thick slice of country toast. Pair your morning fare with one of the stellar espresso-based drinks. We can never get enough of the New Mexican Mocha – a sweet and spicy hot mocha served with a dash of hatch red chili. Starting at noon, guests can enjoy a variety of small, sharable dishes. Whatever you order, don’t miss the Brewha Bread. This hearty country loaf is topped with three types of melted cheeses seasoned with garlic and butter and then served with a marinara dipping sauce. It proved to be a tasty, irresistible starter. Finally, the cocktail menu is of some note. We settled on the Nectar of the Gods, a blend of gin, fresh lemon and honey. The drink was simple, yet elevated and excellent, just like all the menu items at Brewha. Open daily, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday), for breakfast, lunch and dinner. • 1160 S. Manzanita Restaurant (German)

Manzanita feels more like a desert mirage than a real restaurant. If someone told you there was a fine dining restaurant in Cornville that’s been serving traditional German food since 1991, you’d probably never believe it. But thankfully for Northern Arizona diners, Manzanita is a real desert oasis. Customers can look forward to a mix of European and seafood dishes. We started our meal from a plush corner leather booth with one of the most popular appetizers − crab cakes. These featured a crispy-on-the-outside crust that gave way to tender, flaky crab. The dish was accompanied by crunchy beet chips and served with a remoulade sauce. Next up was pumpkin soup − another menu highlight. Our server accurately described this dish as “pumpkin pie in a bowl.” For our main course, we opted for a traditional German dish: Schweinshaxe or a ham hock. The meat on this braised pork shank melted right off the bone and was served in savory juices, ideal for dipping. Dessert featured decadent Swiss chocolate mousse topped with fresh whipped cream and a sprig of mint. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m., for dinner. • 11425 E. Up The Creek (Modern American/International Fusion)

The wine list at Cornville’s Up the Creek is one of the best in the entire Verde Valley, which should come as no surprise seeing that it’s located down the road from several wineries in Page Springs. Diners can choose from over 60 wines. The setting is high above Oak Creek. Watch the trout and ducks below. Each expansive window features a hummingbird feeder so you can watch the birds buzz around while you eat. Food highlights include the Goat Cheese Caramelized Onion Tart, red meat like the Queen of Steaks and Blackened Ahi Tuna. The Buttermilk Pie is a must-order dessert. This Southern delicacy is light, sweet and satisfying. Reservations are required. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday), for lunch and dinner. • 1975 N. Page Springs Road in Cornville (928-634-9954) ($ TO $$$$)
