We’re well into my favorite time of year, fall. The heat of summer is gone. The cold weather has not yet arrived, and the glory of nature preparing for winter is on display for all of us to see. In Sedona, we do not get the extensive colors that are prevalent in other parts of the country, but we do get a lot of yellows and golds with the occasional oak or maple tree that brings a spot of intense red to the mix. Soon the trees and bushes are at rest whilst life goes on for the rest of us and the creatures we love.
Then the rest of winter and the rebirth of spring, an endless cycle. I’ve included two shots from our Northern Arizona area and two from one of my favorite places in the world, northern Wisconsin.
The photo at the top of this page is an aerial shot from the east side of the San Francisco Peaks in October with the aspen groves in full color. Zooming way in you can see the occasional splotch of red, but from here we have the yellows and golds. Photo 4 is a photograph of the lake by the clubhouse of Oak Creek Country Club. Again the trees are turning color with downed leaves in the water and on the grass – a beautiful fall afternoon.
Photo 2 is of a dirt road going back into the forest in northern Wisconsin near Barnes. My family began spending our summers up there in the late 1940s, and it remains a place of renewal. Photo 3 is a shot of some leaves turning color, but they’re not quite there.
