There is a plethora of things to do while you are visiting Sedona and its environs: shopping, restaurants, vineyards, hiking and enjoying a splash in Oak Creek. There is the solitude found in the wilderness where you can become acquainted with yourself and be grounded in the natural world.

The local human residents get to enjoy this on a daily basis as they make choices like how to make the best of every day and live it to the fullest or not. Lately, I have been finding a great deal of pleasure sleeping in under a wonderful comforter that we bought years ago on a trip to Europe. Time under the comforter cuts into the amount of espresso I can drink in the morning, but it just feels so good. My face is chilled from the window open all night and the warmth of the comforter and my black cat, Katie, either lying on top of me or snuggled up.

Wild residents go about their daily lives and seem to be enjoying themselves. #1 (Featured at the top of this page): A Ringneck Duck is coming in for a landing on one of the ponds at Bubbling Ponds Fish Hatchery in Page Springs. Rather than make a typical landing where he comes to a halt quickly, he just went forward on his belly and extended the slide on the water as long as he can. #2: A wild burro is off for his morning run on a trail before he gets his day going. Exercise is an important part of a daily schedule. #3: This may be acceptable in the wild, but seriously, if you see a dude like this on a street corner, run for it! Actually, it’s just a Great Blue Heron taking in some early morning rays after a cool evening at Lake Pleasant.

#4: With less than 5,000 surviving Bengal Tigers in the world, it is an absolute joy to be able to see these magnificent creatures in the local area. Out of Africa in Camp Verde has several of these beautiful creatures, and they participate in a tiger splash on the premises every day.
