Where To Go
Sedona is hiking mecca with more than 200 trails to pick from. The good news for dog owners is that many of those hiking trails are dog friendly. When taking a dog on a trail, it’s important to bring water, give them time to rest and not to overexert your dog. Be sure to look up the individual trail to ensure dogs are allowed too. Some easier trails you could hike with your dog include Little Horse, Fay Canyon and the Chimney Rock. Red Rock Crossing or Crescent Moon Ranch is an iconic site featuring fantastic views of Cathedral Rock that also allows dogs. The trails here are relatively easy and perfect for a laid-back outing. Located on 14 acres, the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park is a soothing place outfitted with Buddhist stupas coupled with red rock views. Leashed dogs are welcome here.
If you have a social dog, consider taking your pooch to the Sedona Dog Park. Nearby Posse Grounds Park is another fantastic place to take your dog on a walk. Enjoy plenty of greenery coupled with striking views of Capitol Butte at the park. Two historic sites just outside of Sedona are dog-friendly. The pueblo ruins of Tuzigoot National Monument in Clarkdale, and Camp Verde’s Montezuma Castle National Monument, which features cliff dwellings that the Sinagua resided in, let leashed dogs in.
Some of the wineries in Cornville welcome dogs. Located on 11 acres, Oak Creek Vineyards & Winery is one of them. D.A. Ranch lets leashed dogs (provided they don’t enter the tasting room) on its bucolic vineyard that features a swing and a small pond. Dogs are not allowed inside the tasting room, but at Page Springs Cellars guests can purchase wine and food inside the tasting room and then devour their goods on its grounds that overlook Oak Creek.
Where To Shop
Sedona features a variety of shops that cater exclusively to pets. Stock up on food, treats and other supplies at West Sedona’s Golden Bone Pet Products. This shop is known for carrying products that are both eco-friendly and socially conscious.
Located in Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, BowWow Pet Boutique sells pet clothing, leashes, collars, bandanas, treats and other accessories.
Where To Eat
Many Sedona restaurants are dog-friendly so you can bring your furry friend along when you’re going out to eat. Creekside American Bistro even has a dedicated gourmet dog menu that pet owners can enjoy with their furry companions on the outdoor decks. Dogs can feast like royalty with menu options like steak tartar, a cheddar omelet with chicken jerky and a chicken jerky cookie. All dogs are offered cool filtered water. Chef Mercer Mohr’s phone number is listed so diners can text him if the dog is not offered water and VIP service. Mercer’s Mesa Grill – with its sweeping views of Capitol Butte – also serves that same dog menu too. Other dog-friendly Sedona dining options include Uptown Sedona’s Pizza Company, which also has an exclusive dog menu. BBQ spot Open Range Grill & Tavern also has a dog menu.
Where To Stay
Many Sedona hotels welcome dogs. The cottages along Oak Creek at L’Auberge de Sedona are pet friendly. Dogs enjoy plush amenities like dog beds of various sizes, food and water bowls, a goodie bag filled with a toy, treats, clean-up bags and a map of walking trails. Dogs can dine with their owners on the deck at Cress Bar.
Amara Resort and Spa in Uptown Sedona is also dog friendly. There’s even a chalkboard sign in the lobby that lists names of doggy guests. Dogs are welcome on the patio at restaurant SaltRock Southwest Kitchen. Oak Creek is mere steps from property and offers a great stroll. Arabella Hotel in Central Sedona features a 3,300-square-foot dog park on property and complimentary dog treats at the front desk. The pet-friendly rooms are located nearby the hotel’s dog park all feature tile floors for easy cleanup. You also can add your pet’s name to the visiting pet board. Boutique property and one Michelin Key award winning-hotel El Portal is also pet friendly and charges no pet fee. Each room in this hotel is unique, and some even offer fenced-in patios. Pets receive a welcome basket stocked with a blanket, doggie bags and treats.
At Enchantment Resort, doggy guests are given a dog welcome gift upon arrival in addition to a plush dog bed, food and water bowls. The property that’s nestled in Boynton Canyon also has dog waste bag stations on the grounds to make cleaning up after your pet a breeze.
