ART HOUSES



Take a peek inside the artist’s studio if you attend the Sedona Visual Artists’ Coalition’s Sedona Fall Open Studios Tour. From Oct. 29 to 31, visitors can check out about 45 working artists’ private home studios scattered throughout the Verde Valley. Mediums you can find include glass, ceramics, painting, photography and weaving. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This self-guided tour is free. ART CELEBRATION



Discover original artwork from over 125 artists at the Sedona Arts Festival on Oct. 9 and 10 at the Sedona Red Rock High School. Find a variety of mediums like ceramics, drawing, sculpture, metal and wood. On Oct. 9, the festival hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Oct. 10, the festival is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekend admission tickets cost $15 and cover both days. Children 12 and younger are free. Check out dazzling, colorful crystals, gems and jewelry at The Sedona Gem and Mineral Club’s Annual “Rock, Gem & Jewelry Show. The show will be held on Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sedona Red Rock High School. More than 40 vendors will be displaying their wares. Find amethyst, agates, minerals, fossils, jewelry, gemstones and beads. The show also will feature a silent auction and an hourly raffle. Admission costs $4. Children 12 and younger are free. Be prepared to get spooked if you attend Haunted History at the Sedona Heritage Museum on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. Celebrated author Michael Peach will read original stories including: “Little Bill”-the unsolved murder of Bill Fredricks at the Van Deren cabin; “The Cactus Killer,” murder and revenge in the Arizona desert. CEMETERY TALK



Learn the histories of Sedona’s original pioneers at the “Voices from the Grave” Pioneer Cemetery Walk at Cook Cedar Glade Cemetery on Oct. 29 and 30. Participants will be escorted from one pioneer grave site to another for history and vivid storytelling by professional actors as they recount the lives and adventures these pioneers had in old Sedona. CARNIVAL FUN



Children and their relatives will delight in the activities at the 2021 Fall Wildcat Carnival. The Carnival will be held on Oct. 9 at the West Sedona School from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids can enjoy a 35-foot slide, a bounce house, a bungee jump and a ninja warrior dome game. The Wildcat Carnival raises funds for the West Sedona School curriculum. Admission is free. Attendees must purchase tickets to buy food, rides and activities. Prescott Plein Air Art Festival

PLEIN AIR PARTIES



Northern Arizona is renowned for its natural beauty, and artists will seek to capture that at the 2nd Annual Prescott Plein Air Art Festival. Held on Oct. 21 to 24 at scenic locations all over Prescott. Sixteen Arizona artists will participate. A ticketed reception will be held on Oct. 24 from 2 to 6 p.m. at The Finn Restaurant at Touchmark at the Ranch, where the public will be able to view, purchase and judge the works for a People’s Choice Award. Can’t make the festival? Plein air fans can attend the “Artists in the Gardens” series, which will be held on Sundays from now through early October. The series runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Highlands Center. These free and open-to-the-public programs allow attendees to watch plein air painting in action. AIN’T IT GRAND?



The Grand Canyon Celebration of Art seeks to celebrate the natural splendor of the Grand Canyon and raise funds for a dedicated art venue and educational programming at the South Rim. If you missed the plein air artists in action in September, you can still view their incredible work from now until Jan. 17, 2022.
