If you’re looking to learn more about Sedona from the descendant of one of the city’s first settlers, consider taking the Red Rock History Roundup Tour. Paul Thompson, grandson of Oak Creek Canyon’s first permanent Anglo settler J.J. Thompson, will give tour-goers history lessons at various locations along the Red Rock Loop area. Look forward to visiting and learning more about the Chavez place, Dumas Ranch, Red Rock Cemetery, Schuerman homestead house, Armijo homestead house (on the National Register of Historic Places), ruins of the area’s first school circa 1891 and the site of an early Oak Creek vineyard and Arizona’s first commercial winery. Tours take place on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 1 and 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $60 for Sedona Historical Society members and $70 for non-members. Purchase tickets at the museum or call 928-282-7038. Visit sedonamuseum.org for more details.
