San Diego-based Six String Society is heading to Sedona for two different performances in March. Six String Society’s two night-stand kicks off with a solo show from singer Julia Othmer on March 27. During the show, expect to hear three-quarters of original songs and about a quarter of cover songs. “She’s sensational,” says Kenneth Rexrode, creator of the Six String Society. “She’s probably the most dynamic performer you’ll ever see. Almost to the point of an hour of Julia, it’s like she’s going manic, but not in a bad away. After one of her performances, even if you don’t smoke cigarettes, you feel like you’ll need a cigarette. You almost feel like you need to rest.”
The following night on March 28, The Celestial Sirens show will feature three different female performers including blue’s performer Whitney Shay, Julia and renowned ukulele player Taimane backed by a six-piece ensemble. Each performer will sing mostly original songs for about 30 to 40 minutes each. The evening will wrap up with one or two group finale songs.
Anticipate performers singing and acting. Images may run on a projector. The main set piece of the show is called the living room intended to literally draw the audience into the show. “It’s not about taking the fourth wall down. It’s almost like they’re peeking in to see what’s happening on stage,” says Kenneth. “When people come, they will be so blown away from individuals in it. This collective, immersive feeling of people really coming together.” Above all, expect the unexpected. “If they want to see something unique and different, this is the show for them.” says Kenneth. − Teresa K.
