Like many of works of art, the creation of the brand new Sedona Gallery of Art was largely organic. “We have nearly 100 artists in the gallery alone. When you have that many artists in the gallery, it’s really hard to get them all displayed properly,” says Chris Olguim, gallery director of Gallery of Modern Masters – the gallery behind Sedona’s newest art gallery, the Sedona Gallery of Art.

The gallery opened at the beginning of the year and is located on the second floor of Hillside Sedona, just underneath The Hudson. One of the key differences between the parent gallery and its spinoff? The Gallery of Modern Masters sells contemporary works from modern masters including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. The new space won’t. The price point at the Sedona Gallery of Art is also lower. But fans of The Gallery of Modern Masters should still expect top-notch modern art from both. “We want to take what we did with Modern Masters and bringing the quality of just amazing artists and continue that in the Sedona Gallery of Art,” says Chris. “A lot of the pieces that we are displaying in the new gallery really work well in homes and brighten it up and give it that welcome feel.”

Sedona Gallery of Art will represent artists from all over the world. Visitors can expect to see mediums including paintings, pottery, hand-blown and fused glass, etched metal, wood art and Raku ceramics. Featured artists include painter Nina K. and glass artist David Lindsay. Chris tell us that those two artists’ works were displayed together because they both use bright, vibrant complementary colors. The new space seeks to further Sedona’s reputation as a world-class art city.

“What we would like to do is create a gallery people will come to,” says Chris. “Sedona is an art destination. This gallery will help to secure and foster that.” − Teresa K. Traverse
