BARRE3
Barre workouts have really taken off in recent years. Want proof? Flagstaff has its very own outpost of national chain Barre3 in the Aspen Place at the Sawmill shopping complex. Barre classes have roots in ballet and incorporate small movements to help strengthen, lengthen and tone. Classes typically kick off with a cardio warm-up before moving into specific exercises involving sustained holds and mirco-movements – like tricep bends or squats – before moving to the barre. Class typically ends with “breath work” where participants lie on the ground and just breathe. The Flagstaff location offers showers, toiletries, lockers, child care and complimentary towel service. 601 E. Piccadilly Dr., Ste. 80. For more information, call 928-774-0782 or visit barre3.com.
EVOLVE
EVOLVE’s performance training program features six pillars: strength training, nutrition, cardiovascular fitness, injury rehab and prevention, lifestyle habits and community support. Following an initial assessment where you discuss your fitness goals and background, you’ll receive an individualized fitness plan based on your individual needs and schedule. You’ll then have access to EVOLVE’s supervised open gym hours where you’ll perform exercises. EVOLVE also offers physical therapy, injury rehabilitation and meal prep. 123 W. Birch Ave., Ste. 100. For more information call 928-793-6237 or visit evolveflg.com.
THE YOGA EXPERIENCE
The Yoga Experience’s unofficial tagline reads “aligning and elevating lives for over 20 years.” Participants can look forward to classes that honor yoga’s deep roots and incorporate contemporary methods. Classes at The Yoga Experience fall into three groups: flow-based, alignment and learning-based and body support. In any given week, you may find a yoga basics, prenatal, yin yoga and a vinyasa flow class – that all take place in a light-filled room with soaring ceilings. 1071 E. Old Canyon Ct., Ste. 200. For more information, call 928-774-9010 or visit theyogaexperience.com.
LULULEMON
Although not a traditional studio like the others in this feature, fitness apparel retailer lululemon’s downtown Flagstaff showroom offers free monthly classes and guided outdoor activities. Some past events include yoga classes, community runs, a women’s pelvic floor class and gardening exercising day. Check the store’s Facebook page or contact the store directly to find out more information about what’s on the schedule. Consider stocking up on stylish warm-weather gear when you’re there too. 516 N. Humphreys St. For more information, call 928-214-0997 or visit lululemon.com.
ROOTS: MIND BODY HEALTH & FITNESS
ROOTS is the only Stott Pilates studio in Flagstaff. ROOTS owner Kelsey Mercer told us that Stott Pilates is a method of Pilates training that’s more sciencebased and incorporates modern knowledge of the body. Participants may improve their strength, flexibility and balance on equipment including the reformer, chair, barrels and tower trapeze. Exercises are broken into layers to accommodate different skill levels. Group classes are labeled from one to four or all in terms of difficulty to help students determine the best class for them. Kelsey tells us that the atmosphere is positive, purposeful and empowering. A second ROOTS location is slated to open in West Flagstaff in the spring of 2020. This spot will offer reformer and spin classes. 3111 N. Caden Ct., #120. For more information, call 928-970-0042 or visit rootsmindbody.com.
