To kick off your new year’s resolution to get healthy, may we suggest taking a First Day hike on Jan. 1? First Day Hikes is a national collaboration of all 50 state park systems to host guided hikes on New Year’s Day, organized by the National Association of State Park Directors. Sedona’s Red Rock State Park will host a First Day Hike that starts at 10 a.m. The guides will choose a trail based on the group’s individual abilities, according to the Michelle Thompson, chief of communications for Arizona State Parks & Trails. Cottonwood’s Dead Horse Ranch State Park also will be hosting a First Day Hike along the Verde River Greenway Trail beginning at the lagoon. Hikes are free and weather permitting. Both parks charge admission fees. For more information, visit AZStateParks.com/fdh.
