El Portal is one of Sedona’s best-kept secrets for breakfast. Tucked away inside an Arts and Crafts-style adobe hotel, it is considered an architectural masterpiece. Decorated with vintage paintings, authentic Tiffany and Roycroft antiques, stained-glass windows and a cozy fireplace, you feel as though you are sitting in someone’s living room. Owners Steve and Connie Segner wanted to build an exceptional luxury inn where strangers are welcomed like family. We can vouch that you will undoubtedly feel like family as you enter this beautiful hacienda.
Breakfast is the only meal that is served, and it is a delectable one at that. Open from 7:30-10 a.m. daily, this restaurant has a menu filled with gourmet dishes.
A favorite on the menu is the Lemon Buttermilk Pancakes, topped with fresh apples, bananas and sweetened cream. If this sounds too rich for your palate, order the pancakes plain and add maple syrup and butter afterwards. Either way, it’s delicious! The Breakfast Burrito is prepared with three fresh eggs, scramble-style, wrapped in a flour tortilla, covered in a rich mole sauce and cheese and accompanied with cowboy potatoes and refried beans. The complex mole sauce makes a fantastic garnish for the cowboy potatoes as well. And just in case your mouth isn’t watering just yet, there is the Apple Cinnamon Nut French Toast topped with Real Maple Syrup. The El Portal Omelet is a favorite of those who love Brie. It’s three fresh eggs blended with herbs, fresh tomato, applewood-smoked bacon and filled with double-cream French Brie and topped with raspberry chipotle sauce. El Portal will accommodate anyone with special dietary needs and substitutions are never a problem.
We are confident that you will enjoy dining in this luxurious atmosphere set in Sedona’s historic surroundings located near Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. – A Sedona Foodie
