Red rock views? Check. A casual yet upscale ambiance worthy of wearing something nice? Check. A consistent menu that’s creative while at the same time cohesive? Check and check. It’s no secret that The Hudson has been considered one of the best restaurants in Sedona ever since it opened in 2015, boasting wait times that rival Elote Café’s. (In other words, make reservations, no matter what time you plan to visit.) If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, the old fashioned here is one of the best you’ll find in town. For something light and eminently drinkable, try The Local, which features Arizona-made gin, muddled mint, fresh lime, soda and a dash of simple syrup.
Salads might not be the most romantic thing to mention in a restaurant review, but The Hudson offers an astounding nine salads, and they are all excellent. Our two favorites are the Sesame Seared Rare AhiTuna Salad and the Kale Salad. Both feature mountains of fresh greens; the ahi salad also includes Napa cabbage, rice noodles, snow peas, carrots, bean sprouts, red peppers, oranges, wontons and thinly sliced, melt-in-your-mouth ahi tuna encrusted in black and white sesame seeds. It’s dressed in a soy-ginger sauce. The Kale Salad includes pancetta, apples, goat cheese, candied pecans and an apple-cider vinaigrette. This salad is a mouthwatering mix of sweet and salty with a hefty dose of crunch. If you’re in the mood for something heartier, we can happily recommend Executive Chef Jeff Storcz’s House-Smoked Salmon Bruschetta, BBQ Braised PorkTacos, Blue Cheese Crusted Prime Filet and the Hudson Mushroom Burger. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
Desserts at The Hudson are equally as creative as the rest of the menu, and we have a hard time leaving without ordering Ellie’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie. We recently branched out and tried the Deconstructed Banana Cream Pie. The concoction showcases a graham cracker crust, bananas, sugared pecans, whipped cream and a strawberry, all surrounding a whipped banana filling that’s equally as yummy as the peanut butter pie, which is going to make choosing during our next visit one of our favorite #firstworldproblems. – Erika Ayn Finch.
