One of the coolest (literally) spots to be this month is on top of 11,500-foot Mt. Agassiz near Flagstaff. How do you get there? Take Arizona Snowbowl’s Scenic Chairlift to the top. The chairlift takes you through a ponderosa pine forest to the top of Mt. Agassiz where the high temperatures are frequently only in the 40s and 50s at this time of the year. From the top, enjoy views of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the slopes of the San Francisco Peaks and the area’s volcanic cinders. The ride takes about 25 minutes each way. Make sure you bring water, dress in layers and wear plenty of sunscreen. The Scenic Chairlift is open daily through Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (6 p.m. on Saturdays from July 7 through Aug. 4). Adult admission ranges from $19 during the week to $24 on the weekend, and kids 5 and younger ride for free. Celebrating a birthday this summer? Ride the chairlift for free within seven days of your big day. For more information, call 928-779-1951 or visit www.arizonasnowbowl.com.
