Even the most casual local hiker has most likely explored West Fork. It’s one of Sedona’s most popular hikes, especially in the fall when the trees along the trail put on a brilliant display of color. But what many don’t realize is that West Fork extends 14 miles one way to the top of the Mogollon Rim. The hike requires swimming through pools of water, navigating quicksand, scrambling over boulders and bushwacking through dense forest. Our intrepid photographer, Deb Weinkauff, made several trips to this area last August and September, exploring 8.5 of the trail’s 14 miles. This is what it looked like through her camera lens.
