What was the last concert you attended?
Lee: I haven’t been to a concert in quite a while. Once I get home, I do what you do around the house. Pay the bills, take out the garbage, go to functions at my son’s school, just like anybody else.
When you’re at school functions, do you get recognized?
Lee: I don’t tell anybody what I do, so this is me coming out of the closet [laughs]. I’ve always enjoyed the anonymity of the group being known by the logo. Then I can go to a restaurant or the grocery story and see how you get treated as a human being. When they find out who you are, it changes the treatment.
What about you, Robert?
Robert: The last concert I attended was Lady Gaga. And maybe a year ago, my wife and I were in San Francisco and we saw Divo. They were amazing.
Any last comments?
Lee: I just hope that the audience enjoys what we lived through. It’s unusual for me to sit down and watch what we did. I wonder if it’s interesting or boring or any of the above. The people who we’ve played it for so far have enjoyed it, and I would hope that would continue. And I’m honored to watch it in my hometown.
Robert: In a way, I’m dreading the whole 50-year anniversary that’s approaching. It’s like a big ugly freight ship approaching the shore at high speed. We are being asked if we’re going to do anything special. I’ve given this question some thought, and my only response is, I hope we can do something useful [laughs]. That’s my final comment.
