Marc’s Sweet Sweet Potatoes
Marc Sterling and Tommy Stovall
Occupations: Marc is a tax accountant, and Tommy is a filmmaker.
Family status: Partners with one son and one dog
How long have you lived in Sedona?
Marc: We moved to Sedona 13 years ago from Dallas, Texas.
Why did you choose this recipe?
Marc: We are big sweets people, so this takes care of that craving in a side dish. And you can still have dessert.
What is special about this recipe?
Marc: Everyone thinks you need to use real marshmallows, but it’s actually better to use the marshmallow cream because it melts.
What is your favorite holiday?
Marc: Valentine’s Day because that’s when Tommy and I met.
Ties or sweatpants at the dinner table?
Tommy: Sweatpants…and sometimes paper plates.
Leftovers: yea or nay?
Marc: Nay. We eat as much as we can at dinner and the rest goes home with other people.
Do you have any holiday traditions?
Marc: We always travel at Christmas because that’s when the kids are out of school.
Tommy: On Thanksgiving we play games – Scrabble, Cranium, poker.
What is your favorite holiday food?
Tommy: Turkey and dressing.
Marc: Honey-baked ham.
Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
Marc: What about pecan pie?
What time does your family usually eat dinner on Thanksgiving?
Marc: Around 2 p.m. Then everyone just helps themselves and finds a spot to eat. The TV is going in all the rooms, and we eat all day.
Where is the most unusual place you’ve celebrated Thanksgiving?
Marc: Last year we ate at Aunt Sue’s Chalet in Duck Creek Village, Utah. It’s between Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks. Aunt Sue and her daughter served everyone.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year?
Marc: We are going to Turks and Caicos in the Bahamas.
What are your tips for dealing with holiday stress?
Tommy: If it’s stressful, we don’t do it.
