Sedona’s New Day Spa

With a menu of treatments inspired by Sedona’s Native American ancestry, Sedona’s New Day Spa has been a perennial favorite among locals since it opened its doors 12 years ago. The spa moved to its current location one and a half years ago, and now it’s become a hot spot for special occasions and celebrations, says owner Jill Galea. It’s not unusual to find brides to be, couples celebrating anniversaries or mothers and daughters all sipping Champagne in tranquil gardens before and after their treatments. “The beautiful thing about this spa is the experience,” says Jill. “It’s not just about the treatment. We encourage clients to stay at the spa the whole day, and we customize each experience. That’s something we take very personally. Our guests leave with beautiful memories as well as total rejuvenation.”

The spa’s specialty is its series of Desert Nature Body Treatments, including the Turquoise Sage Mountain Arnica. Jill says the treatment was designed to address pain and tension while helping to restore the body’s balance. The treatment begins with a sage smudging and an exercise in mentally letting go of what no longer serves you. While you are on the table, your body is dry-exfoliated using gloves in order to activate the lymphatic system and to remove dead skin cells so that the product can be completely absorbed. (You will leave with the gloves so you can exfoliate at home, too.) Speaking of the product, this treatment features local company Body Bliss’ Turquoise Sage Body Butter. The butter’s key ingredient is arnica, one of the world’s oldest healing plants, according to therapist Amrita Jung-Ansorg, who has been at the spa for eight years and who helped develop the spa’s menu. After a relaxing massage with the body butter, you are wrapped in a cocoon of sheets and blankets while your face is cleansed with hot compresses and then massaged with Body Bliss’ 5 Seeds Extract Repairing Serum. The treatment ends with a head and neck massage. It’s a good thing the environment at New Day Spa is so inviting because it will be a while before you want to return to daily life.

Why We Love This Spa: When Jill says it’s an experience, she’s isn’t joking. Nosh on fruits and nuts, sip a cup of Sedona’s Trailhead Tea or cool lemon water, read a magazine, enjoy the outdoor shower, sit in the outdoor hot tub or curl up on a chaise lounge in the garden. This is a true boutique spa.
