Continued (page 5 of 5)

That concept extends to the New American menu, which includes everything from steaks and the very popular buttermilk-fried chicken to vegan options. Fish is flown in fresh five days a week, and much of the produce comes from Chris’ own 10-acre garden in Page Springs. The restaurant puts a big emphasis on beer and wine; vinophiles can choose from 17 wines by the glass, all $7 each. Chris says he wants patrons to feel as if they are walking into his home. The SchoolHouse ranked No. 1 on TripAdvisor three weeks after it opened, and it continues to do so. Though Chris is proud, the man who refuses to let his staff call him “chef” takes it all in stride.

“None of the food on our menu is meant to be taken seriously,” he says. “I’ve been doing this for 23 years, and I’ve learned not too take it too seriously.”
