For the past several years, Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village (336 SR 179) has been the place to be the first Saturday in May when it hosts the Cinco de Mayo Celebration and the Rotary Club of Sedona’s Great Sedona Chili Cook Off. This year will be no exception. Cinco de Mayo highlights include mariachi musicians, folklorico dancers, Latin music and Mexican food. The free event takes places from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The 4th Annual Great Sedona Chili Cook Off takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fourteen area restaurants will serve up chili and compete for bragging rights including people’s choice and judge’s choice awards. (This year, Sedona Monthly’s editor-in-chief, Erika Ayn Finch, will join Mayor Rob Adams and certified Kansas City Barbecue Society judge Roy Cirincione to judge the contest.) Wash down your chili samples with beer from the adjacent beer garden sponsored by Oak Creek Brewery & Grill. Guitarist Esteban will perform his Spanish-style guitar in the beer garden. Tickets for the event are $15 for adults and free for kids younger than 10. Proceeds benefit the club’s Imagination Library program, which distributes age-appropriate books to children younger than 5.
