Sedona Psychic Reader
Nirup Barnum says as a child growing up in Canada, she was sensitive to energies and felt the presence of spirits, but it wasn’t until she was in her mid-20s that her psychic and clairvoyant abilities began to develop. She traveled around the world and studied in India at the Osho School of Mysticism for seven years. She founded a psychic, meditation and healing center in Canada before moving to Sedona in 1999. At her cheerful office in West Sedona, she conducts psychic readings in person, over the phone and via email using tarot cards, spirit guides, past-life regression and aura and chakra balancing. Nirup is also a medium, so she will even communicate with a client’s loved one who has died.
“Reading is a generalized term,” she says. “Basically, I bring info to a person that gives them guidance in life. We all have intuitive and psychic abilities – it’s part of our soul and part of who we are. I also train people to get in touch with that ability not necessarily to become a psychic but to manage their own life and get in touch with their inner knowing.”
Nirup records her sessions, which average about an hour, and sends the recording to the client. All sessions are confidential and clients include everyone from government figures and Hollywood elite to Sedona residents and tourists. She says many clients find the first reading transformational; others come back for multiple sessions. But Nirup cautions that she’s not drawing out a blueprint for how to live your life – nor should any other psychics.
“No matter what a psychic tells you, you have the final decision with what to do with that info,” she says. “Your truth comes from your inner core, not from your psychic. And remember that no matter what a psychic tells you, no one can make another person act a certain way. They can’t make your boyfriend come back to you. Also be weary of a psychic who tells you that you have dark energy that needs to be removed and then offers to remove it for an [exorbitant] fee.”
So what’s it all about?
With her curly blond mane and welcoming smile, Nirup is friendly and calm. She made me feel at ease. This was my first reading, so I opted for a general session. Nirup encourages clients to have specific questions or areas of focus. In my session, she looked into my energy field and used tarot cards to answer my concerns and examine my “soul path.” She gave me tips on listening to my inner truth, which made me feel like the answers to my questions were coming from within rather than from an outside source. While Nirup recommends clients nurture themselves and take time to regroup after deeper sessions (such as past-life regression), I left feeling energized and very positive about the future.
Nirup’s thoughts on Dec. 21, 2012: “I’ve never looked at it. I’m about right here, right now – I read more close to home. I think we are in a time that’s about awakening ourselves, bringing light to ourselves and moving in the right direction.”

Sedona UFO Sky Tours
Kim Carlsberg was at the height of her photography career when she says aliens first abducted her at her home in Malibu, Calif., in 1988. She had started work on the new television series Baywatch, and she had a great boyfriend. One night, she came home from working late and spotted a glowing light over the Pacific Ocean. She watched it shoot across the sky and then come to a halt 20 feet in front of her window before disappearing into the night. She didn’t mention the incident to anyone. Two weeks later, she says she woke up in the middle of the night and found herself naked in a room filled with tables that were only two feet off the ground. Unconscious human beings were spread out on each table as diminutive gray creatures performed tasks on the bodies.
All in all, Kim believes she was abducted hundreds of times. She says the aliens are creating a race of human-alien hybrids that will save the Earth from humanity. Kim believes she is the mother of seven hybrid children and says she suffered the side effects from the births and experimentations until she went through menopause. Shortly after the abductions began, she gave up her Hollywood career and devoted herself to UFO research. TriStar Pictures optioned her first book, Beyond My Wildest Dreams, Diary of a UFO Abductee (Bear & Company, 1995); Kim says the government shut down the production three months in.
“The aliens destroyed my life, but their intentions were good,” says Kim, who relocated to Sedona in 2010 and started Sedona UFO Sky Tours. “They are trying to raise our consciousness. It’s the military that made things worse. The black ops abducted me too. It usually happened the night after I was abducted by the aliens. They wanted the aliens’ power and technology.”
Despite such a back story, Kim still gets very excited on UFO tours when a client has their first sighting. Doesn’t she harbor any anger toward the beings she believes ruined her life? “Anger doesn’t serve anybody,” she says. “I know the deepest secrets of the universe – I’ve seen thousands of aliens. I’ve been on their ships. I have contact with my hybrid children, and they are phenomenal beings. But it’s a shame that we are sequestered on this prison planet. The dark military forces on our planet are preventing us from connecting with the stars.”
So what’s it all about?
Kim’s UFO tours begin at sunset off Cultural Park Place. Everyone on the tour receives a pair of night-vision goggles, and if you’ve never looked through these before, you are in for a treat. For 90 minutes, attendees scan the stars, looking for moving objects. During our tour, we did see upwards of 35 unidentifiable flying objects. Kim is adamant no one makes a judgment (“Isn’t that just a satellite?”) about what they see while they are seeing it, and she advertises that UFOs are spotted on every tour. Just seeing the shooting stars through the goggles was worth it.
Kim’s thoughts on Dec. 21, 2012: “I don’t have any predictions, and I’ll tell you why. One of my sons, Qual, talks in timelines. When we meet, it’s because our dimensions merge. He doesn’t see one future, he sees the most probably reality. There’s a mass consciousness, and I believe you get what you think about. I am positive about the shift that’s coming. If you expect disaster, that’s what you will get.”
