Pas de Deux
Love is in the air at The Spa at Sedona Rouge, which has one of the most meaningful couples’ massages I’ve seen. My husband joined me for the Pas de Deux (90 minutes), which began with side-by-side massages to synchronize our breathing and energy. We arose for a 20-minute soak in a luxurious whirlpool tub filled to the brim with citrus bubble bath, surrounded by candles and a rainbow of flower petals. Romantic? You better believe it!
Perhaps it’s the deep breathing exercises or the heady scent of the orange Body Bliss oil (made locally and sold exclusively to Sedona Rouge) but this treatment left us feeling pleasantly lightheaded and filled with amore. Before the bath, the therapists held hands while placing their other hands over our hearts so the energy from one heart flows into the other. Book for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary, and your loved one will be goo-goo-eyed for days.

Facial and Neuromuscular Massage
After nearly 15 years as the owner of Complexions, aesthetician Lynne Barbas knows a thing or two about skin care. But it’s her genuine concern for her clients that stands out when you meet her.
Complexions offers many different facials and Lynne likes to meet with clients to assess skin type and goals. “These are not typical spa facials,” she told me. “Clients come here to have specific work done, whether it be anti-aging or anti-acne. It’s not a lot of fluff.”
Lynne’s menu includes microdermabrasion, DNA cryostem (skin regeneration) and collagen fleece (to remove appearance of fine lines). I chose a more basic facial, and Lynne carefully picked the right balance of natural exfoliants, crèmes, and cleansers. A new experience for this spa baby, she whipped out a high-frequency neon glass electroder that emitted waves of electricity, which act as a germicidal on clean, dry skin after pore extractions to prevent spread of bacteria. No, we are not talking electroshock – it was a slight tickle.
